Rosa del Desierto
La Rosa Del Desierto commemorates extraordinary individuals in the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez region. For the last 4 years, this award has honored those who play an impactful role in our region through their contributions to the arts/philanthropy, business entrepreneurship, and outstanding medical care fields. La Rosa Del Desierto hosts an annual gala founded in 2018 by Yolanda Arriola, where the respective honorees are awarded a custom sculpture created by the renowned Mexican sculptor, Sebastian. Sebastian is a Mexican sculptor who is best known for his monumental sculptures of steel and/or concrete in urban settings. He has done over 200 sculptures in various parts of the world, from Mexico City to Japan, Switzerland and Argentina. One of his renowned pieces in our region is “La X” established in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua as a representative figure in our borderland. La Rosa Del Desierto is formed from the combination of water, wind and sand; found in desert regions all over the world. Much of the Celestine variety is “treated” with smoldered heat-gently brushed over the “rose petal” edges, to create the white lines that help define more clearly the shape of the rose formation. Like the Rosa Del Desierto, we are honoring those that shape the crevices of our community. A warm achiever, with the essence of delicacy, yet firm, like the rarity stone it is. The sculpture is a representation of the universal elements that create a unique mineral that resembles a desert rose. La Rosa Del Desierto is a symbol of the perseverance one needs to mold beauty in the midst of adversity that radiates through the heart of the community. Honorees of this award are individuals who work hard in our bicultural community to make their prime objective to help members of the community to improve their lives.
